About SeniorCareRanked

SeniorCareRanked is a free, independent resource that helps families find safe nursing homes using publicly available government data. We don't accept advertising from facilities, and no facility can pay to improve their ranking.

Our Mission

Choosing a nursing home is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Unfortunately, the existing resources are often cluttered with ads, pay-to-play listings, and confusing rating systems. We built SeniorCareRanked to cut through the noise and give families clear, data-driven answers about nursing home quality and safety.

How We Score Facilities

Every facility on our site receives a Trust Scorefrom 0–100, calculated from publicly available CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) data. The score factors in:

  • CMS Star Ratings — Overall, health inspection, staffing, and quality measure ratings
  • Staffing Levels — Total nurse hours and RN hours per resident per day
  • Staff Turnover — Higher turnover correlates with lower quality of care
  • Inspection Results — Number and severity of health deficiencies found
  • Fines & Penalties — Financial penalties imposed by CMS for violations
  • Red Flags — Abuse citations, overdue inspections, recent ownership changes

Our Data

We currently rate 14,700 nursing homes across all 50 states. Our data comes directly from CMS Nursing Home Compare, a public database maintained by the U.S. government. We update our dataset monthly to reflect the latest inspection results and ratings changes.

What We're Not

  • We are not affiliated with any nursing home or healthcare company
  • We do not provide medical advice
  • We do not accept payment from facilities for rankings
  • We do not replace an in-person visit — always visit before deciding
